The thing with the quiet heart

Hard times, Michael?
Yo, but there‘s a hope, a horizon.
(und ein Geländer, danke, Lajla!)
Still working as therapist?
Well, Ulf, i have my moments.
Your new case, well, somone who wants to make
his love a love for forever, right?
Forever and a day, Ulf. And now it‘s your turn.
Tom is waiting.

“Yo‘ve got it good. And you‘ve got time
to discover it all.“
That‘s what one of my
professors at university used to say when he
saw it on our lost faces that we‘d never heard
of some artist he was talking about.

Somehwere, at some point in time before,
I‘d heard „Streets Of Your Town“ and „Right Here“.
But I didn‘t really discover The Go-Betweens until
long after they‘d broken up (for the first time).

Ulf, I lived with their music from start on. When I had heard
„Cattle and Cane“ for the first time, they‘d one over me.
Every song a lesson, deep, light, wave by wave.

Wave by wave, Michael. Their songs fit right in with all the music
I was into back then. Songs that I felt told me things about my life –
even if I didn‘t alays understand the lyrics. When I hear those
songs today, I always get that feeling again, and I envy anyone
who can still discover The Go Betweens.

Now, Thomas, „Quiet Heart“ is one of Grant‘s greatest love songs, no doubts. Robert Forster said: „It was a new kind of song for us. Slow and building, momentum and intensity rising, hitting the audience (and ourselves) in waves of emotion.“

“Quiet Heart“

Special suggestion: So here‘s the challenge: buy the book with the 11 Go-Betweens song comics, titled „Thank you for a lovely day“ and make some bice screenshots from Ulf‘s comic on „Quiet Heart“. Imagine a picnic on a green lawn near a forest, a power spot of yours, and there, on a little Sonos box, you play her the song, one time the music only, and the other time, you give her the pieces of paper with the paintings and the words – and he music, and, well… she will never forget the song and that is in thos case and very strictly, about you and her. Simple as that.

And, Tom, you don‘t do this as an academic exercise, or as some weirdo new age trick on the mind, you do it with love, and the papers will unfold you like a ballet of emotions. Simple as that, again.

“Doesn‘t matter how far you come
You have always further to go“
(from Quiet Heart)

    The heater’s on
    The windows are thin
    I’m trying hard
    To keep this warmth in
    I turn to her
    She’s sound asleep
    Someplace I don’t know
Doesn’t matter how far you come
You’ve always got further to go
    I tried to tell you
I can only say it when were apart
About this storm inside of me
And how I miss your quiet, quiet heart.
    Two hours on
    My eyes are open
    There’s bad blood between us
    What did I say
    That made you cry?
    Our dream won’t die
Doesn’t matter how far you come
You’ve always got further to go.
    I tried to tell you
I can only say it when were apart
About this storm inside of me
And how I miss your quiet, quiet heart.
    What is that light?
    that small red light
    Scorpio rising
Doesn’t matter how far you come
You’ve always got further to go
    I tried to tell you
I can only say it when were apart
About this storm inside of me
And how I miss your quiet, quiet heart.
