Robert Wyatt liebte ihren „non-singer“ Gesang und verglich ihn, als ich ihn einst zu Cuckooland befragte, 2003, mit Astrud Gilberto. Man höre nur den wundervollen Song BEWARE aus jenem Album. Und in die Reihe besondeere Nicht-Sängerinnen gehört natürlich auch Alison Statton.
Für 100 Euro würde ich die Box sofort kaufen 😉
Ich höre übrigens gerade ein tolles Album, bei dem auch jemand singt, den man nicht gerade als virtuosen Sänger bezeichnen würde, und der trotzdem einen wundervollen emotionalen Impact hat. Alabaster DePlume und seine Scheibe GOLD.
Und auf Gold dieser Song, 2’16 lang und so viele Worte, und so wonderful:

Ich finde, dass Karen ganz ausdruckstark singt (wie Brian), Non-Singer ist die falsche Kategorie, ansonsten teile ich uneingeschränkt die Begeisterung von Robert Wyatt.
ich habe Sie und ihre Band vor vielen Jahren in Stuttgart live gesehen. Wohl so um die Zeit als „get the flu“ erschienen ist. Ich habe irgendwie noch ein gutes Gefühl, wenn ich an den Abend denke. Vielleicht auch weil es im übertragenen Sinn eine „Kinderband“ war. Neben ihr
waren unter anderem auch Eric Mingus und Jonathan Sanborn dabei.
„Kinderband“ gefällt mir als Begriff.
Wir könnten mal eine Liste der tollen Alben von Künstlern erstellen, die aus dem Schatten ihrer bekannten Musikereltern herausgetreten sind – oder auch nicht. 🤷♂️
Karen Mantler würde ich der ersten Kategorie zuordnen…
Neneh Cherry hat sich ein schönes Stück Popgeschichte gesichert, mit „Raw Like Shusi“ und ihrem Burner Song „7 Seconds“. Das von Dir genannte Album, Lorenz, kenne ich bisher nicht.
Baxter Durys „The Night Chancers“ ist klasse, muss ich mal wieder goutieren.

non-singer natürlich nur im Sinne von non-virtuosic nach klassisch-konservativen Spiel- und Gesangsregeln…. wie robert eben auch😉
Die Katze Arnold wäre auch empört, woll?!
