„time of farewells“ – revelations of september (update)

„The passage of time
Is flicking dimly up on the screen
I can’t see the lines
I used to think i could read between
Perhaps my brains have turned to sand“

(From Another Green World)

the sad news at the beginning: brian whistler will leave us after so many years, he will be missed, honestly. thank you for everything. my fave story was the one including a missed opportunity and the vibes of steve winwood. the albums of next month are by enzo favata, named „ritornare“, and, no surprise, „punching the clown“ by lambchop. The archival discovery is a double cd, the re-appearance of two albums of mr. „infinite guitar“ alias michael brook. the book of september is „kala“ by colin walsh, the film a documentary, worth re-watching and centered around ryuichi sakamoto, „coda“. And, no doubt, andy beta’s conversation with steve tibbetts is worth staying just a little bit longer. i have to think, too, about a very good tv-series. but there it comes, on arte: „familiengeheimnisse“. in regards to the radio column nothing new under the sun, except this: in my last radio show ever there will be a quite uncanny and intense story told by laurie anderson for a radio portrait i did way back in 1994 – thanks to the people in the archive it didn‘t get lost. robert wyatt can be heard, too, in that „blue hour“ – he always was in „talking mood“ whenever we met in london between 1991 and 2003. and finally you can hear brian eno speaking on an iphone from a faraway place – what a fine closer!

Brian, thank you for your wonderful posts, which often led me directly to the bay . I will miss the voice of S.F.

I will miss your voice here, too, Brian. What I vividly remember is one of your posts you published after a long time of absence, when you just talked about your everyday life in the past year.

Ich bin für die Einführung einer Rubrik „Frühere Autoren“!

This is really a pity, Brian, but (to quote Mr. C.) if it be your will …
    then best wishes from Pittsburgh!

Thanks to all of you for your good wishes; they are most appreciated. It was a hard decision to leave the blogand sometimes I wonder if I should keep to it. Yet the fact is, I’m not writing, and I know Michael would prefer me contributing on a regular basis, which make sense and I totally understand why he has gently prodded me to become more active here.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve asked myself why I don’t want to write about music or the arts anymore, at least In the way I used to. The fact of the matter is, what I want to write about now really isn’t appropriate to this blog as it’s extremely personal. I have a Substack, but as yet I’ve never written a single entry for it, however, I think I’m ready to start. It’ll be more of a memoir/journal which will hopefully help other musicians who are struggling with Focal Dystonia (and other movement disorders), which I have been dealing with for most of my life. I realize this will probably be boring to most readers, but for those who have injuries like mine and like me, still have the will to forge ahead with their creative musical lives, perhaps it’ll be of some use.

Once again, I thank everyone who has read my pieces over the years and written so many lovely comments. I’ve enjoyed reading your pieces as well and will continue to check in from time to time for sure.
