What can one want more? Well, maybe the forthcoming duo album by John Scofield and Dave Holland on ECM. And Rafael Toral! And Roger Eno‘s „Without Wind, Wthout Air“. Letzteres zeigt Bruder Roger einmal mehr auf einem kreativen High, was seine Soloalben aus dem Hause Deutsche Grammofon betriftt, eines so ergreifend wie das amdere, und immerzu findet er neue delikate Einsamkeiten. Nautical disaster and spiritual redemption in conceptual 23rd. And conceptual they like to go, may I add. i followed the ways of the Mountain Goats from the very beginning in my radio days. One of many hghlights were „The Sunset Tree“, now 20 years backwards in time and appropriately reissued this autumn. But a new album is always worth a look, a listen, an hour in the evening. I do reccommend the bluewater vinyl edition. (M.E.)

John Darnielles umfangreiche Diskografie reicht mittlerweile von DIY-Kassetten bis hin zu diesem geplanten Musical über ein schwindendes Trio von Schiffbrüchigen, komplett mit orchestraler Ouvertüre und Broadway-Star Lin-Manuel Miranda. Es ist eine qualvolle Metapher für die Vergänglichkeit der Menschheit und die kosmische Sterblichkeit. „One day the stars will go out“, singt Darnielles namenloser Erzähler, worüber zukünftige Propheten berichten werden. Aber während sich die Katastrophe für diese unvorbereitete Moderne zuspitzt, gehört das sanfte New-Orleans-Blechbläserensemble der 70er Jahre in „Through This Night“ zu den musikalischen Balsamen. Während die samften Streicher anschwellen, erklingt der Vers, „everything that sinks, will float“. (Nick Hasted, Uncut, December)

Das vierte Quartal fängt grad erst an, und ihr seid schon wieder am Jahresende..?
Lasst uns doch die Zeit erstmal wertschätzen; sie geht doch eh viel zu schnell vorbei.

Das Doppelalbum von Makaya McCraven hab ich auch bestellt, nicht zuletzt weil ich ihn beim JazzFest sehen werde.
Aufmerksamkeit hat sicherlich auch noch Charles Lloyds neues Doppelalbum verdient; ich hab’s allerdings bisher nicht bestellt, weil da leider der Preis deutlich höher ist als z.B. bei McCraven oder Tweedy. (Das Album von den Necks ist leider sogar nochmal teurer. Da muss ich, wie bei Eno/Wolfe wohl bis irgendwann im nächsten Jahr warten, bis es mal akzeptable Preise geben wird.)
Bereits bestellt hab ich ansonsten noch Meredith Monks Cellular Songs und Sinopoulos‘ Topos.
Ach ja, und Wadada Leo Smith im Duo mit Sylvie Courvoisier natürlich. Da warte ich auch schon sehr gespannt. Und Craig Taborns Trio of Bloom mit Nels Cline und Marcus Gilmore.

Aber als Musikjournalist bin ich naturally trainiert, die nahe Zukunft im Blick zu behalten. Die nächste Sendung kommt bestimmt 🥁

Makaya habe ich auch bestellt, genauso wie das Tortoise Album. Zum Konzert würde ich auch gerne, aber es passt leider weder in Berlin noch in Bremen.
Bei dem Tom Skinner Album bin ich noch unsicher, ob ich es mir kaufe oder nicht, Toral genauso.
