Winfrid Trenkler
Unbedingt sehenswert!)
The childhood and teenager days, a land of strangeness and wonder. And thrilling music all around. Who still knows this album called „Magician’s Hat“? With that one track in which Bobo Stenson is playing the electric piano? Long time no listen. And such a long time I haven‘t heard Mr. Trenkler’s voice. From Jan R. I know thait it was him who shot the inside photo of Soft Machine‘s fantastic THIRD. And I still remember him (or Mike Ratldge in an interview with Winfrid) talking about the special organ noises of that band calling it „a wesp-in-the brain-sound“. It was definitely Winfried Trenkler who introduced me to Bo Hansson, and he is responsible for my obsession with „Lord Of The Rings“ (I preferred the album to those three books from Klett Verlag.) And so on. ROCK IN was a great radio show at WDR in the mid70‘s. Hearing his voice today for the first time again since one, two of his „Schwingungen“ hours presenting Manuel Göttsching‘s E2-E4 (I was impressed) followed by Cluster and Eno‘s AFTER THE HEAT (i was blown away), was special. And his story with Vangelis, wonderful.
