Talk

Beatie Wolfe’s „solo talk“ in Brian Eno’s studio

BEATIE SPEAKING

One) What was the modus operandi (if there was one) with the lyrics and the songs? Did you write the lyrics beforehand, did you discuss their special form with Brian  before the production? These rather short verses, they let the words breathe and unfold… ambient lyrics, kind of…

Two) Looking at all the lyrics: they really seem to come from a territory of „dream moods“, right? Reflections  of love, life and letting darker things enter (like in the lifeboat track, lines like „between a vision and a nightmare“. So, calling these pieces „electric country dream music“ goes beyond just romantic connotations of „dream music“, right?

Three)  Can you dig  bit deeper into the song  „,My Lovely Days“? And how that song grew?

Four) By the way, was Lou Reed‘s „Set Me Free“ one of the musical inspirations for the atmospheres of „Luminal“ that Brian loved so much?

Five) In the making of this gorgeous one hour ambient piece called „Big Empty Country“, what was the fantasy you both had for that very special atmosphere…. For me it has something very peaceful, but can also have something uncanny…

Six) can you remember one of probably many moments of the production in which Brian caught you by surprise! A moment of wonder, or two…?
